Comments

When users post comments on our site, we gather the data displayed in the comment form. We also collect the user’s IP address and browser details to aid in spam detection.

We may supply an anonymized string (or hash) derived from your email address to the Gravatar service to check if you’re a user. Following the approval of your comment, your profile picture becomes publicly visible in relation to your comment. You can find the privacy policy for the Gravatar service at https://automattic.com/privacy/.

Media

If you’re uploading images to our site, we recommend not including location data (EXIF GPS) within the images. Site visitors can download and extract any location data embedded in images on our site.

Cookies

If you comment on our site, you have the option to save your name, email, and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details when you post another comment. These cookies will remain for one year. If you visit our login page, we’ll set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie doesn’t contain any personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Upon logging in, we’ll set up several cookies to save your login info and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you choose “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie doesn’t contain any personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content From Other Websites

Our site’s articles may include embedded content (like videos, images, articles, etc.). This embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you’ve visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content. This includes tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged into that website.

Who We Share Your Data With

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you post a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognize and approve any follow-up comments instead of keeping them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our site (if any), we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What Rights Do You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, or have posted comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you’ve provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This doesn’t include any data we’re obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
